Benefits of a Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats are an amazing invention and the perfect convenience gadget for your home!

In their most basic description, a smart thermostat installation connects to an app on your smart phone or other device via an active WiFi connection allowing for on-the-go or even lazy (yes I am guilty of switching it on regardless of the thermostat being less than 1m away!) control of your central heating system.

There are a range of thermostats, some are simple on/off stats with a time schedule, some, like the Google Nest have learning capabilities and start to ‘learn’ your daily patterns.

Whilst a smart thermostat installation isn’t the cheapest purchase, in the long term it can help with your energy efficiency and save costs on gas bills as you can start to really only use what you need.

The smart thermostats are really beneficial for people who have a varied routine as they can control their system at the literal touch of a couple of buttons.

As a lot of us step even further into the 21st century, an added perk is most of the smart thermostats connect to home tech like Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and Google Home, with a few also connecting to Apple HomeKit and the Microsoft Cortana version. Most smart thermostat brands have also brought out additional products like thermostatic radiator valve heads allowing you to control each room individually, carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, room sensors and cameras all operated from the comfort of your iOS or Android operating systems.

So whether saving money and being able to turn it off because you forgot to when you left for work this morning, or the comfort of popping it on when you get on the train so your home is nice and cosy when you walk in, a smart thermostat is definitely a worthwhile purchase!

Smart Thermostats range in price depending on the capabilities you need it to have and I would strongly recommend looking at the connectivity of any other home tech you may have to make sure it’s suitable.
Some of the most common stats on the market are Google Nest, Hive Active Heating, tado°, Honeywell evoHome & the ecobee.
